Langton Court Hotel

Langton Court Road, St Annes, Bristol BS4 4EG, UK – 0117 987 2528

An old fashioned pub offering a wide range of drinks.

Good music nice friendly atmosphere

479 Fishponds Rd, Fishponds, Bristol BS16 3AL, UK – 0117 965 3938

I really enjoyed my stay at Gala Guesthouse. There is such a heavenly peace and safety I experienced every day during the full duration of my stay. The room was clean, up to standard hygiene wise, tastefully furnished not overcrowded just well furnished for me to still enjoy free space in the room. The en suite shower and toilet were cleaned daily and this meant a lot to me. The manager of the guesthouse is a bona fide first class hospitality lady no airs and fusses, but loads of kindness, gracious and welcoming in a very special way. Thank you for your effecient and welcoming management..I felt very much at home away from home.

Pubs, Gastro Pubs and Bars

The Hollybush Pub

29 Bath Rd, Bridgeyate, Bristol BS30 5JP, UK – 0117 239 5879

The menu was limited but very good quality and apart from battered fish and chips, not boring pub grub. A good selection of craft beers and an impressive wine list. I had black pudding scotch egg with onion jam followed by venison spaghetti bolognese. Service was excellent. Recommended.

We've had splendid meals here, but yesterday was a disappointment. Despite being half empty it took 45 minutes for our food to arrive. (We heard the chef from the open kitchen say after a while, "Nothing's been done on this ticket!" then mention our order.) No one spoke to us during this long wait. When the food arrived, elements were missing, but no one came back to ask if our food was OK. We saw staff chatting to each other, but couldn't get their attention. The ribs were very poor, more tendon than bone, a gelatinous horror left after struggling to pick off the meat, making for a very unpleasant eat. All the staff, when they did speak to us, were very friendly and polite. We mentioned the issues and were offered free desserts, but it was already so late after the wait we had to get our 2yo home to bed. It was a shame, as we've always enjoyed the Hollybush before.

The Spotted Cow

The Harvester(Crown Inn)

Avon, 126 Bath Rd, Longwell Green, Bristol BS30 9DE, UK – 0117 932 2846

We had a waitress who was on her first ever shift working in this Harvester, she was excellent, the food was great, we enjoyed it so much, we stayed to have a sweet. We found out that this waitress was a second year student at Bath Spa university earning a bit of money to help with her studies, so well done Harvester for employing this young lady.

Travel Super Market search and compare prices for hotels all over the world. Could also be useful for you. I This said I was told by a hotelier that the way to get cheap rooms is to ring up the week before and ask for the weekend rate. You can usually get an absolute bargain as they will trying to book all the rooms that they have not sold! Could be worth a try!

Bed & Breakfast Accommodation plus Guesthouses

Rose House and Annex bed and breakfast

42 Stanley Rd, Warmley, Bristol BS15 4NX, UK – 07850 727767

Stayed in the annexe. Beautifully decorated and finished. Well appointed with plenty for breakfast, cereals, eggs, bread, milk, butter, yoghurt, jam, orange juice. An overnight stay somewhat marred by the owner complaining that we had eaten the eggs and disposed of the egg box??? Very strange "food police"!!! Don't think I will venture there again in case I fancy any coco pops. Wasn't impressed that the box of Pringles was three-quarter eaten when we got there!! Lovely place - disappointing owner.

Holly Tree House Bed and Breakfast

12 Bagworth Dr, Longwell Green, Bristol BS30 9DA, UK – 0117 932 2489

Probably the nicest b&b I've ever been to. Lovely hosts, lovely room and well provisioned. Excellent breakfast as well.

If you would like something truly different you might like to have a look at Airbnb. These are mostly B and Bs provided by people on a very informal basis. The may have a spare room, a yurt, a cottage or a barge with space they can receive guests for a night or a month! The website is highly professional. You can really see what you are going to get. Very well worth a look. Airbnb also show 'conventional' B&Bs as well. Enjoy!
